Downtown Homewood Committee

About the Downtown Homewood Committee (DHC):
The Downtown Homewood Committee was formed as an arm of the Homewood Chamber of Commerce in 2003 upon the dissolution of the former Merchants Association. Since the committee is under the chamber, full time representation is provided by the Chamber Executive Director.

Purpose: The purpose of the DHC is to promote businesses within the "historic" section of Homewood.

Meetings: The DHC meets on the last Wednesday of each month at the Children's Dance Foundation from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m.

Funding: The DHC is funded by its members who pay an additional $50 per year to the committee fund in addition to their annual chamber dues. All DHC members must be a member in good standing of the Homewood Chamber. Additional funding is often required by select members who voluntarily participate in DHC events which require a budget in excess of $1000.

Non-Dues Revenue: The DHC has partnered with Heartland Payment Systems to offer a Homewood Gift Card and discounted credit card processing services. For every DHC member that uses this provider, Heartland will make a contribution to the committee each month based on the collective credit card sales of the participating committee members. This money goes directly to the DHC budget to assist with program and event costs.

Leadership: The DHC elects a new president each calendar year which presides over the committee at meetings and serves on the chamber board as a voice for the committee members. The DHC also has a secretary that takes and distributes meeting minutes.

Events: The committee plans a variety of events throughout the year to increase visibility, traffic and sales. For most events, sub-committees are formed to assist with organization.

Membership: Membership in the DHC is limited to those merchants in the greater downtown Homewood area and the historic Edgewood business district.
